Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, and opening its first boutique in 1859, the company was manufacturing jewelry for royalty. Princess Marie Bonaparte, Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Grace Kelly, and Prince Rainier III de Monaco, were just a few of their clients.

The brand manufactured beautiful jewelry-watches used as brooches, also pocket watches and wristwatches for women. Cartier quickly realized that the wristwatch was the future.

In 1904 Cartier produced a custom wristwatch for pioneer pilot Alberto Santos-Dumont, which was called the Santos Dumont, a perfect balance of function and form, for someone who can see what time it is only if gravity allows it.

In 1917 the Tank was launched, only to become one of the most recognizable watch designs since. The Santos Dumont and the Tank were to become the blueprint of Cartier’s wristwatch offer for the near future.

Since Cartier launched the Tank, they developed many watches for men and women, with shapes ranging from square and tonneau to round and oval. The Tortue single push-piece Chronograph was launched in 1928, to make a bridge between oval and square.

To only mention a few, the round watches named Ronde of Cartier, Rotonde of Cartier, rectangle watches like the Santos, the Tank Américaine from 1989 are women and men’s watches you can use to step up your watch game.

In 2008 Cartier launched the first Geneva stamped caliber MC 9452 in the with the Ballon Bleu de Cartier tourbillon.

In 2010 we saw the design of the Astrotourbillon watch, and from 2013 we see Rotonde de Cartier Double Mystery Tourbillon, the Cartier Chronograph line, and the Ballon Bleu de Cartier Tourbillon Double Jumping Second Time Zone.

Since 2013, Cartier is one of the boldest watch brands around. The all-time favorite Roman numeral dials are slowly being replaced by these works of art that will surely become classics and do give other high-end watch brands a run for their money.
